On the International Day of Living in Peace, Mahjoub El Bad, a retired employee of Foss Bucraa, the Phosphate Company in Western Sahara, highlights the responsibility that Morocco bears in the pursuit of peace. Drawing from his experience and insights, El Bad sheds light on the actions taken by Morocco that have hindered progress and perpetuated the status quo in the region.

El Bad firmly asserts that Morocco has exploited the period of relative peace between Polisario and itself to further its colonization policies and maintain control over Western Sahara. He emphasizes that Morocco’s actions have undermined the chances of achieving a just and lasting solution for the Saharawi people, shifting the responsibility for the lack of progress onto the Moroccan government.

With his perspective as a retired employee of Foss Bucraa, El Bad brings attention to the economic exploitation of Western Sahara’s resources by Morocco, which has had adverse effects on the Saharawi people and their struggle for self-determination. By highlighting Morocco’s role in perpetuating the conflict, El Bad aims to hold the Moroccan government accountable for its actions and calls for a genuine commitment to resolving the situation.

As we observe the International Day of Living in Peace, El Bad’s words serve as a reminder that achieving peace requires acknowledging the responsibilities of all parties involved. By addressing the actions taken by Morocco, El Bad advocates for a more equitable and just approach to resolving the conflict in Western Sahara and ensuring the rights and aspirations of the Saharawi people are upheld.
