Sahrawi union activist Hussein Mssa’ed met with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Mr. Steffan de Mistura. Activists at the meeting urged the UN to fulfill its commitment to organize a self-determination referendum and to establish an international human rights protection mechanism in the occupied territories of the Sahrawi Republic.

In a recent video statement to Equipe Media, ,Mssa’ed  said he personally urged the Special Envoy to transfer the administration of the region to the United Nations and the African Union, as stipulated in the Houston Agreement. He highlighted the ongoing demands of the retired employees of the Phosboucraa company, which the Moroccan Office Cherifien des Phosphates (OCP) has refused to meet.

The meeting concluded with a call for the need to resolve the issue by allowing the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and emphasized the Polisario Front’s status as the legitimate and sole representative of the Sahrawi people.
