Four medium-sized explosions rocked the occupied city of Essmara last night, killing one person and injuring four others.
Eyewitnesses told “Equipe Media” that the ground shook from the force of the explosions, and that projectile fragments were scattered around the incident sites. Residents rushed to the city’s mosque for shelter and information.
A Sahrawi human rights activist living near one of the explosion sites told “Equipe Media” that the cause of the explosions remains unknown. However, he expressed doubt that they were caused by Moroccan drones, which are regularly launched from military bases in the city.
United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) officials and officers were dispatched to the scene to investigate.
This is the first incident of its kind since November 13, 2023, that has been acknowledged by the occupation authorities without an official explanation of the cause.
