El Aaiun – Occupied Western Sahara
Polisario Front continues its unwavering pursuit of self-determination for the Sahrawi people of Western Sahara. In a powerful address to the UN Special Committee on Decolonization, Polisario representative in New York, Sidi Mohamed Omar, underscored the urgency of resolving the conflict.
Omar emphasized the findings of the 1975 UN fact-finding mission, which validated the Sahrawi people’s overwhelming desire for independence and recognized the Polisario Front as their legitimate representative. He commemorated the 51st anniversary of the Front’s founding, highlighting their unwavering commitment to liberation.
Omar declared the Sahrawi people’s unwavering determination to resist Moroccan occupation through all legitimate means until their right to self-determination is realized. He urged member states to reject Morocco’s “expansionist proposals,” which undermine international law and the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.
The Polisario Front remains committed to achieving a peaceful resolution through a UN-backed referendum. “We urge the international community to hold Morocco accountable for its occupation, support the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, pressure Morocco into negotiations, and strengthen MINURSO’s mandate to include human rights monitoring.” He said .
