Despite facing relentless intimidation and surveillance from Moroccan occupying authorities, the family of Saharawi activist Hassanna Al-Wali commemorated the 10th anniversary of his death on Saturday 29 september 2024. Al-Wali, a prominent figure in the Saharawi struggle for independence, passed away in 2014 while imprisoned by Moroccan forces.
A private gathering was held at the family’s home in the occupied city of Dakhla, where they honored Al-Wali’s memory and reaffirmed their commitment to his cause. In a poignant tribute, Mrabih Al-Wali, Hassanna’s brother, denounced Moroccan occupying authorities for their attempts to suppress the truth surrounding his brother’s death. He called upon the international community to support the family’s quest for justice and accountability.
Mrabih also shared his own experiences of harassment and persecution at the hands of Moroccan occupying authorities. These acts of intimidation, including job loss and the destruction of his fishing boats, are part of a broader campaign to silence him.
