Prominent Sahrawi activist Yahya Mohamed El Hafed, known as “Izza,” has initiated an open-ended hunger strike in the town of Tan Tan, south of Morocco. This action is a direct response to the Moroccan authorities’ recent confiscation of his taxi, which serves as the primary source of income for him and his family.

Izza, who spent 15 years in Moroccan prisons for his political and human rights activism, views the confiscation of his vehicle as a deliberate act of intimidation. He emphasized in a statement that this hunger strike is not merely a personal protest but also a call to action for the international community to recognize and address the ongoing suffering of the Sahrawi people.
