Aziza Hmaida, a well-known Sahrawi activist, stated that the national unity proclaimed on October 12, 1975, is a pivotal moment in the history of the Sahrawi people, and that the annual commemoration of this event embodies a recognition of that achievement and the necessity to preserve it.
In a filmed statement with Équipe Media, Hmaida emphasized the critical importance of Sahrawi unity in the face of various attempts to divert the Sahrawi cause and divide the people. She stressed that this unity, despite external plots and strategies, remains solid and unbreakable, forming a strong barrier against any attempts to fragment the struggle of the Sahrawi people.
Hmaida also reminded, on the sidelines of a gathering organized in Limay near Paris by the League of Sahrawi Women in France to commemorate the 49th anniversary of national unity, that this unity, declared nearly five decades ago, remains a fundamental element for the survival and resilience of the Sahrawi people in their quest for freedom , self-determination and independence.
