Activists banned from travelling to visit Sultana
On Thursday February 18, 2021, Saharawi human rights defenders El Mami Aamar Salem and Mohamed Manolo were stopped at a police checkpoint in occupied Dakhla as they set off for Boujdour to visit Sultana Khaya who has been under house arrest for more than 3 months and subjected to daily physical assault by Moroccan police and paramilitary forces.
In a video call El Mami told Équipe Média that “plainclothes police officers stopped us and asked for the car documents. Then they tried to impound the car with a tow truck, and finally gave up after our complaint”.
“After 2 hours a police officer informed us that we were blacklisted from travelling, without giving any reason. They refused to provide any formal documentation of this travel ban”. The police never asked the travelers for their destination.
