Family fearing for the life of a Saharawi prisoner who has been on a hunger strike for 48 days.

The family of the Saharawi detainee Mohamed Al Amin Haddi, who has been on a hunger strike for 48 days to complain about the prison conditions, announced today that they will remain at the prison gate to protest against the decision that prevents them from visiting their son, despite fears that he is close to death.

In a video message Mnaina Haddi, Mohamed Al Amin‘s mother, said «I came all the way out here, and have taken the trouble to travel to visit my son but they banned me without any explanation.

I doubt he’s still alive. I will stay here with my children until I meet Mohamed Al Amin».

Last week, Mohamed Al Amin Haddi told his brother on the phone that he will not cease his hunger strike after having been subjected to pressure, threatened with retaliation and death by the Director of the prison, Tifelt 2.

Mohamed Al Amin added that the aim of his protest strike was “either freedom for me and my colleagues, or die for my just cause”.
